Kirby H. - Entry #6

I by no means need this CADE but wanted to share my story nonetheless. My husband was the true hero for my aquariums. We lost power at approximately 2 am Monday the 15th. We were hoping that this was one of the rolling blackouts that they had been talking about but by 10 am and a 20 degree temperature drop in my house, we knew that was not the case. At this point, my aquariums (a saltwater and freshwater) were dangerously cold. I had a battery backup on my saltwater tank, but that failed after just 3 hours. My husband and I then decided to try to power some of my essential aquarium components with the power outlet in my truck. He spent the next 8 hours going from one aquarium to the other with the extension cord we had run from my truck to my living room. We also gathered as many blankets as we could spare to wrap around the aquariums. That night, my husband found a generator that my uncle had that needed to be fixed. He spent several hours in the weather fixing the generator just for my aquariums. Once he got it fixed and running though, it was found out that the fuel line had dry rotted and was dumping gasoline. He then went back to the extension cord connected to my truck. The next day it had become to dangerous for us to stay at our house as I have many chronic medical conditions and was already in a bad position myself. We had to go to my uncles for warmth and water. My husband spent several more hours trying to give the aquariums one last heating push before he had to leave. Finally late Wednesday afternoon, our electricity came back on but we didn't know what we'd be walking in to. To our complete surprise I only lost 1 watchman goby in my saltwater aquarium and I know without a doubt it was because of my husband. He was my aquarium hero this last week. Thank you for doing what you are doing for someone that is in need of a boost after all this horrible weather.
